Voice over IP telephone systems A fairly new technology for telephones has been getting more popular by the day. Voice over internet protocol is a service being offered for residential use. If you are one of these people that use this service, please make sure your information is correct in case of an emergency. Contact your local emergency services by dialing 911. When answered, advise the call taker you have a voice over IP phone service and need to confirm the information they receive is correct and confirm the emergency service center is within your county. If the information is not correct, you will need to contact your phone provider and have the issue resolved. When checking this information with the 911 center, be sure to stay on the phone line with the call taker. If you do not stay on the phone until this request is complete, police will be dispatched to your residence due to a result of a "911 hang up call." |
